Hiring electricians in Prague

Electrical work is one job where you should not cut corners. A qualified electrician (elektrikář) can tell you whether a fault is a simple fix or a sign of a bigger problem in older wiring.

What to consider when hiring an electrician

  • Safety first. If you smell burning, see scorch marks or a breaker keeps tripping, switch off the circuit at the distribution board and do not use it until it has been checked.
  • Ask about qualifications. Electrical work in the Czech Republic must be done by people with the appropriate professional qualification. It is reasonable to ask an electrician about theirs.
  • Inspections. New or altered installations are often followed by an electrical inspection report (revizní zpráva). Ask whether your job needs one — landlords and insurers may want a copy.
  • Handyman or electrician? Changing a light bulb or fitting a ready-made lamp is handyman territory. New circuits, sockets, fuse boxes and anything inside the wiring is a job for an electrician.
