Hiring home services in Prague

Whether you rent or own, most home jobs in Prague follow the same pattern: describe the problem clearly, agree the price before work starts, and keep the invoice.

Before you call anyone

  • Renting? Check your lease (nájemní smlouva) and tell your landlord or building manager (správce domu) first. Many repairs are the landlord's responsibility, and some buildings have contracts with particular tradespeople.
  • Write the problem down. A short description and a couple of photos make it much easier to get an accurate quote, especially across a language barrier.
  • Ask how the price is calculated. Hourly rate, call-out fee (výjezd), materials and whether VAT (DPH) is included.

Checking a business

Czech businesses have an eight-digit company ID (IČO). You can look it up in the public business register ARES to check the business exists and what it is registered to do.
